Robot Sea Monster Games
RSM Studio
Renaming a games studio for a bigger future
Overview
Robot Sea Monster Games built games for hire. As that work dried up, the studio needed to become a broad provider of apps, software, and digital products, with a name and identity that kept its DNA but announced a new kind of company.
Problem
The name and cutesy, mobile-game look told founders and entrepreneurs “we make games,” not “we build your product.”
Solution
A new name and a sophisticated identity that positioned the studio as a digital partner for startups, founders, and anyone with a digital need.
The Mark

Brand Development
A signature mark, stacked and horizontal lockups, and a framed seal, built to flex across black, white, and signal yellow.

Process
The same rigorous path, applied to a new challenge.
01
Workshop
Ran a mini brand workshop with key stakeholders to surface what the studio really was, and what it wanted to become.
02
Naming
Proposed RSM Studio: keep the initials the team had built equity in, and retire the sea monster.
03
Identity
Directed the logo with a contract designer, from brief to final mark.
04
Rollout
Carried the identity into a new website and client proposal decks.
The Insight
Keep the initials. Change the promise.
Agencies like R/GA prove that initials carry a premium, understated authority. RSM kept everything the team had built, while quietly retiring the sea monster.

The Transformation
Before and After
From a cute mobile-games mascot and a games portfolio to a digital studio built to win founders and startups.

Outcome
RSM Studio can now attract a new kind of client: founders and startups with digital needs far beyond games, including Dolgo, an AI startup whose brand I went on to build.
